2024 N-Line MPG impressive at 57.8

NE mild weather today, no AC nor heat, driving 25-40 mph, short trip to the grocery store and back. Yes, I know once winter comes I won’t be getting that with the heat running. Still impressed…

How you drive matters too, not just the mode. If you have a heavy foot starting from a stop or hard on the brakes, and you are constantly stop-and-go and like to accelerate hard, you will lose every advantage of having a hybrid. Ease the pedals, coast to a soft brake stop to charge the battery. As long as you aren’t trying to drag race every stop, you’ll see mileage pop up quick.

@Mason
Exactly, I love coasting in my hybrids (last car was a Niro), the comfy 25-40 mph residential/commercial zone in mid-size cities.

Bingo! I kind of laugh. There’s a particular guy in my neighborhood with a big truck who loves to ‘coal roll’ my HEV whenever he sees me (usually flipping me the bird as a particular member of a political view he isn’t shy about). Yet I know he is dumping probably $100 a week on gas driving his 4x4 to take his kids to school, do grocery shopping, and run errands. I am happy doing my thing, getting where I need to be, and for $30, I fill my tank for almost two weeks worth of miles.

I’m getting 157 since I filled up. (PHEV lol)

I’m convinced mine has an issue. My MPG is 28 and I only drive on eco.

I have a SE N and I average 38 on the highway and 24 in the city. Traffic must be a pain.

I have a limited hybrid. How does one get 38, lol?

@Christopher
This! I struggle to get better than 28. I’ve read up on it and think I’m doing the right stuff.

I drive 10 under the limit now just to try to reach 30 mph, lol. I don’t get it.

@Christopher
I drive 140 miles 3 days a week and under 5-10 the rest of the week. I typically get 50-75 mpg around the neighborhood and average 38-40 on long commutes. Sometimes it’s as low as 36-37 if stuck in traffic for 30 min during my commute. 2024 hybrid, 2400 miles driven to date. I had a Ford C-Max years ago that got 75-100 mpg on short drives. You have to drive a hybrid purposefully.

@Delilah
I only drive on eco mode and I’m very aware of my driving. I literally have a 24 with the exact same mileage, give or take 50 miles.

What mix of city and highway is that? My 2.5 is getting that on a normal work week and I am about 10% hell traffic / 30% city / 60% highway. I don’t drive like a lunatic.

@Preme
I wish I got anywhere near that, and it’s probably an 80% highway commute.

It’s cool, but not that rare, to get outlier mileage numbers like that on a short trip. I see you’re averaging 38.2 on a quarter tank of gas; that’s pretty good, especially for less than 1000 miles on the odometer.

@FAITH
These posts talking about mpg figures over a journey of 3 or 4 miles make little sense. Post mpg over a tankful; that’s much more meaningful.

@FAITH
Funniest one was driving three city blocks from one store to another on the third day I had the car; it said 80ish mpg. :joy:

I currently drive a 2020 Escape Hybrid and average around 42 MPG. On certain routes, I can easily get 50-55 MPG on trips around 10 miles (flat terrain). I really like the 2025 redesign and just don’t want to fight the wait for a hybrid; I want to wait for some incentives.

One thing holding me back is it seems like the MPG on the Tucson is going to be less than what I currently drive. I look forward to some of the posts here to see what the real-world MPG is on the 2025 hybrids.

@Dipna
Also, consider if your car is FWD or AWD. I was told mine wouldn’t get anywhere near 40 mpg since it’s AWD, so that’s why I was surprised and impressed today.

@Dipna
Yes, but the Tucson is a larger vehicle with better seats. My friend has an Escape, and the difference is noticeable.
