I’m about to buy a 2023 Palisade, but I’ve seen posts and videos about ABS braking problems at low speeds on rough roads. Hyundai seems to say all the cars do this, so it’s not a defect. Are there any owners here who can share if this is a real issue or if it’s just being blown out of proportion by a few people?
We’ve had this issue since we got our Palisade in May. It even caused us to skid into an intersection once. The dealership had trouble diagnosing it at first, but after two tries, they found the problem. They said it’s unsafe to drive and are replacing the entire braking system. Hoping everything’s sorted when it’s done next week. Aside from that, we love the car.
People who say it’s not an issue just haven’t experienced it yet. For me, it’s happened multiple times, but usually on rough roads or over things like potholes and reflectors. Most of the time, it wasn’t a big deal, but twice it was terrifying—it slid into an intersection, and I thought I’d get hit at 65 mph.
It’s frustrating that some dismiss others’ experiences. It really depends on where and how you drive. I know how ABS works, and this isn’t just normal ABS activation. It feels way off.

What happened when it slid into an intersection? Were you braking and it just didn’t stop? Asking because I’m thinking of buying one.
@WilliamMia
What kind of tires do you have? A lot of factory tires aren’t great. Our 2023 came with some ‘Ultra-High Performance’ Hankooks, which seemed like an odd choice. We replaced them with Bridgestone Weatherpeaks, and the grip is much better.
We’ve felt the ABS kick in a few times on uneven surfaces, like gravel parking lots, but it didn’t extend stopping distance or feel unsafe. I wonder if better tires help avoid some of these issues.
No problems for me. It might’ve happened once, but it wasn’t bad at all. This kind of behaviour is common with ABS in many cars, in my opinion.
Following this thread. We’re shopping for one, but now I’m wondering if we should look at 2020–2022 models to avoid this.
I have a 2024 Palisade. No issues so far. Just adding my experience.
It’s happened to me before, but I don’t think it’s a big issue overall.
I drive a 2025 Palisade and haven’t had any problems. The brakes worked as expected when I had to stop quickly on ice.
I have a 2023 and no issues, but I drive cautiously and haven’t had to brake hard.

It’s not about braking hard. It can happen during regular braking, like at a stop sign, if there’s a small bump in the road.
@WilliamMia
That’s surprising. Glad I haven’t experienced it yet.

I still love my Palisade. Just wish this didn’t happen.
This issue is the main reason I skipped the new 2024 XRT. It seems to be a serious safety concern. I suspect there’s something wrong with the wheel speed sensors or bearings, causing unnecessary ABS activation.
I’ve considered older models (2020–2022), but I don’t really like how they look.
I’ve owned two 2024 Calligraphy models (the first was totaled in July). I’ve had this happen in both of them. It usually occurs on bad roads with small bumps or dips, and it’s unsettling when it happens.
If someone’s driving too fast and this triggers at an intersection, I could see it causing a major problem.
I haven’t had any problems. I drive on rough roads all the time and might’ve felt it once, but it seemed like normal ABS behaviour to me.
I’ve never heard of this happening. I own a 2020 model.

The 2020–2022 models don’t seem to have this problem.

Good to know. Makes me feel better about my car.
