This isn’t just a minor scrape… So I’m guessing your insurance deductible will cover this. It looks like this will involve painting and possibly replacing a panel since the quarter panel is pretty damaged. Expect costs around $3k to $4k, maybe a bit more. You should definitely go to a body shop for this. Get a few estimates, but you might be surprised by how much it will end up costing.

Thanks for being honest! It’s my first accident, so your guidance really helps.

I got rear-ended in my 2020 Sonata a couple of weeks back. Just the bumper repair cost me around $2k, and that was only the visible damage. If there’s any hidden damage, it could cost more. Luckily, insurance is covering it for me since I wasn’t at fault. Just one experience to share: you might be looking at a couple of grand, and with the bodywork, probably a lot more.
You should go to a body shop instead of a dealer.
Your insurance deductible will definitely apply here. I recently had similar damage and it was about $2500 before insurance stepped in.

And after insurance… maybe $500?
Expect costs around $4k to $6k when everything is said and done.

You nailed it. I don’t understand how some people think this can be a $2k fix.

Right? They forget about labor and paint costs too.
Did your car give any alerts when you got too close to something? Maybe that’s just a Sonata feature.

It seems like this model has parking sensors, but I think they only work at the rear.

No, my blinker turned off when I straightened out, so I didn’t hear any beeps.
A good rule of thumb for body work is $1,000 per panel. So for this, I’d estimate around $2,500 to $2,800.

Would the bumper need work too? It seems like just paint transfer, and the dent is mainly on the quarter panel, but I’m still figuring this out.
@TaraSimmons
Yes, the bumper likely needs some work. It’s probably scratched, and new paint will need to be applied. They will sand it, fill it, and then paint it to look good. The quarter panel is rough too, so that will need work as well. Depending on the shop, they might want to replace the fender instead of fixing it. Your taillight is damaged too, and most shops will just replace that. They will need to blend the paint as well, so it doesn’t look different on your trunk and rear door. Bodywork can be tricky and costly. If you have any other questions, I’m here to help. I work as a collision estimator at a Cadillac dealership.
@Preme
Thanks a lot! What if I don’t need it to be perfect and just want the dent fixed?
In reality, this is a forum, not an auto body shop, so you really need to get a quote in person. There are too many factors at play like labor rates in your area, how far the damage goes, and material costs. Expect it to be a lot.
I had similar damage and it cost me $4500.
Honestly, it doesn’t matter how much it costs – that’s up to your insurance to handle. As long as it’s less than the total value of your car, they’ll fix it. You pay the deductible and they cover the rest. Just file a claim and let them sort it out.
