We have a 2019 Sonata that came with the Blue Link as an option for remote starting, but now Blue Link doesn’t work. Is there some way to use the key fob to remote start the car?
No. That key fob won’t remote start the vehicle.
Nope… Remote start isn’t available except on certain trim levels, and that remote isn’t the right one.
https://mykeypremium.com/ is the way to go.

I see that they offer this for older vehicles as well. I have a 2012 Elantra, but it doesn’t have the stop/start button. I see there’s the remote starter for 2017+ Elantras with key ignition, so that means it won’t work with older key ignition models?
@StellarisSeeker
Correct, it’s only for certain vehicles with a specific key module, mostly push-button start vehicles but some later key start models as well… Much cheaper and massively easier to install than a traditional aftermarket remote start system, but not for all vehicles.
@lizbeth
I sent them a message before I saw your reply, but good to know. I wish my car was a little newer Thanks for your answer.
Nope, they want their $$ to let you remote start.

Sometimes it takes it a hot minute too.

To be fair. Someone has to pay for the cell connection needed for this feature to work.

If they’re paying more than a dollar or two a month per car for that low bin width of a connection, I’d eat my hat.
@HyundaiEnthusiast88
I don’t know what country you’re in, but where I am no connection costs a dollar or two for anyone. There’s also the admin costs for keeping the operation going and of course, there is a profit margin. No one wants to work for free. Cars that have a remote starter on them have the feature for free forever. The rest need to pay for Blue Link. It could be a little bit cheaper, sure, but fundamentally paying for a service isn’t some big screw-over.
Also, who wears hats in 2024?
@Hart
I work in corporate managing corporate cell phones. I can get cell phone service for $10 a month with unlimited everything if setting up enough lines at once.
Your Blue Link subscription may be expired. I have a 2019 Sonata as well but I bought mine after it had been sitting in the dealership for a year, so mine expires next summer.
Not with that one, bub.
If your fob doesn’t have the HOLD button with the circular arrow on it, very likely your trim doesn’t have remote start.
Nope. Incorrect key fob.
2022 top trim Ioniq Hybrid owner here. My fob looks exactly like that one. Have to use Blue Link for remote start. It sucks. My cousin’s mid-trim 2022 Elantra has remote start on the fob and a button to view the rear camera.
You gotta have a certain trim and pay the subscription for it, which is dumb costly. Don’t waste your time or energy for it when you gotta do it through an app. Not on the fob, btw.
You have to subscribe to Blue Link and there is no remote start on that fob.
