I need to know which insurance companies are still covering Hyundai owners. If you’ve recently renewed or switched, who did you go with and what are your rates like?
I have a 2018 Tucson insured through Geico, and my premium is $500 for six months.

I’m an automotive locksmith. Does your Tucson have push-to-start or a regular keyed ignition? The theft issue mainly affects models with traditional keyed ignition, not push-to-start. If yours is push-to-start, you might be able to negotiate a lower premium.
Also, if anyone in Northern Virginia needs car keys, feel free to reach out.

I don’t think the Tucson was part of the models that were heavily targeted for theft.
@BushnellRides
It has the same vulnerability, but I guess it’s not as popular to steal.

Does your policy include collision and comprehensive coverage?

Yeah, it does.
I love my old Hyundai and was thinking about getting a new one. I have State Farm, and my agent told me they won’t insure certain Hyundai models unless they’ve had the software upgrade. Even for newer Hyundais, rates are slightly higher—about $10-20 more per month than similar cars from other brands.
Also, Hyundai has partnered with AAA for coverage options in most states if people are struggling to find insurance. You can check their website for details.
I pay $780 for six months through Geico. It used to be $606 before all the theft issues started. This is for my 2017 Elantra.

Is that full coverage?

Yeah, it includes collision, comprehensive, uninsured motorist, and roadside assistance. My deductible is $250.
@StellarStrike
If you raise your deductible, your rate might go down.

Normally I’d consider it, but my car just got broken into, and they ripped open my steering column. I’m glad I kept the low deductible.

I’m 24 with a 2018 Sonata, and the quotes I’ve gotten are close to $600 a month. This is ridiculous.
@Christine
It should drop when you turn 25. At least, that’s how it used to be.
I have a 2023 Kia Forte, which is kind of similar. I’m paying around $200 a month through Progressive. No other company would insure it, but I’m also a male under 30.
I’m paying about $650 every six months through Progressive for a 2022 Hyundai Elantra.
I have Erie insurance. I pay $80 a month for 100/300/100 coverage.
$1,400 for six months with Progressive on a 2022 Kia Niro. I checked 15 different companies, and this was the lowest quote I got. I have one ‘improper driving’ violation, which probably isn’t helping my rate.
@Mickey
Insurance still counts the original reckless driving charge, even if the court downgraded it to improper driving.
