Just got my new Kona N Line this week and the key doesn't impress me

The employee works for Hyundai.

Exactly, the rep is probably trying to make it sound better because people have commented on how odd or cheap it looks.

I didn’t say it was better or worse, just sharing the design backstory.

@danielsteeler
And neither did I, I’m just saying it sounds like marketing jargon; who knows if it’s actually accurate

A Hyundai rep mentioned it was meant to look like a river stone. The cheap feel and detached key seem like an afterthought

The detached key design is because people kept losing their keys with the old style

@StevenMiller
I lost this one too since it wasn’t fixed in the fob where it should be!

I’m really not a fan of that key’s style either

How often are you even going to use it? It’s just a small item that will sit in your pocket. The car works with a proximity key system. Just enjoy the car and forget about this so-called key. Hope you have a nice day

@TheOneHyundaiGuru
Is it smaller or larger than the old version?

It’s awkwardly bigger. Alone, it’s not terrible, but I got a GoDark “Vault” to protect from relay attacks and needed the large size. It feels like an extra phone in my pocket.

@Robert
So silly. If you’re discarding the emergency key, why does it have to be so bulky? The one I had with a Taurus in the 90s was matchbook-sized.

@TheOneHyundaiGuru
That key is just way too big in my opinion

@TheOneHyundaiGuru
I get that the key is not great, but I’ve only used mine a couple of times since I got my Sonata this year. I use my phone with the Hyundai app; I hardly take the key out.

This new key design is such a mess. And be ready for the bottom button to fall off. I had to superglue mine back on during the first week.

When I first took a test drive, I thought the dealership had special dealer keys that looked big and ugly to make them easier to spot. I was pretty let down when they handed me the same ugly keys.

I felt the same, but the dealer I dealt with had the N Line S, which came with a more appealing color scheme, although still bulky and cheap

I actually asked the sales rep that exact question. He said it was the real key and that I wasn’t the first to ask

@NexoNomad
It’s baffling they couldn’t at least fit the actual key inside the remote enclosure. Especially since the rest of the car is so well designed

I also have a Hyundai Kona N Line 2024. I love the car and got a great deal. But yeah, the key looks like a cartoon spaceship. Your color scheme seems much worse than mine. Mine is black instead of green and brown. That green is just not appealing

@Amara
Or maybe it simply resembles the Hyundai emblem. I think it’s a smart design

@Amara
Is it the N Line S model you have?
