Rear ended again... why does this keep happening?

My car is less than a year old, and this is the second time I’ve been rear-ended this year. Today’s was the worst. The first time was just a scratch, but today it’s much worse. Also had to replace a tire earlier because of a bad puncture.

That’s awful. Bad drivers are everywhere. I got rear-ended in my mid-20s. I had a pickup, so the damage wasn’t much, but the driver took off, pinning me between the cars. I ended up under their car and got dragged a bit. Turns out the car was stolen and full of drugs. They got no jail time because of their ‘circumstances,’ but here I am in my mid-30s with messed up knees and an ankle. It’s frustrating how these people just walk away with no consequences.

That’s insane! I get so frustrated seeing how the system lets these kinds of people off so easily. There was a case recently where a suspect stabbed a cop, and when the police shot him, they were the ones investigated. It’s ridiculous. Why do we treat criminals with kid gloves?

@Edward_Genesis
In the US, every time a cop uses their weapon, there’s an investigation to make sure it was justified. It’s not to punish them but to ensure the shooting was necessary. They even get to investigate themselves. So I don’t think it’s as hard on them as you might think. Plus, the system of qualified immunity is just a bad policy overall.

@DigitalDreamer
Canada is a beautiful country, but the politics and justice system are so broken. Not that the US is perfect, but at least they’re trying in some areas.

That’s why I have a hitch with an 8" riser. Cars these days are built without real bumpers.

I might do the same and maybe add reflective stickers. I’m honestly scared to drive my Santa Fe now.

That’s exactly why I got a hitch for mine too.

A hitch on its own isn’t enough. It’s usually too low to stop a vehicle properly. That’s why I added a riser.

@Callen
Got any pictures of the setup?

Sorry to hear about this. Hope everyone is okay. Was this near the beach?

No, it was on a snowy road.

I feel for you. I got rear-ended on Tuesday, and it was a lot worse. My car is only 7 months old. People are just so distracted these days. Hopefully, your insurance sorts it out quickly.

Yeah, I already reported it. Hoping for a quick appointment with the adjuster. They told me rear-enders are usually the other driver’s fault unless they have a dashcam showing otherwise.

Where I live (Illinois), accident reports are done online now, and it can take up to 7 days to even see the report. I’ve been waiting 5 days already, and nothing’s moving forward yet.

A few years ago, I was in Virginia when an SUV hit me while I was reversing into a parking spot. Geico decided we were both at fault, and I wasn’t happy with how they handled it.

Oh no, that’s so bad. Hope things work out.

It’s moments like this that make you wonder about your car choice. Do you think it’s a design issue with how low the brake lights are? Tailgaters in icy weather must have a hard time stopping in time.

I’ve been thinking the same. I wish I could go back in time and choose a different car. It seems like being rear-ended twice can’t just be a coincidence.
