Rebate cancelled… what now?

So disappointed. I just got a call from the dealer saying that my 2025 PHEV has increased by 5k because the Canadian government just ended the rebate. It was supposed to arrive any day now after waiting for 3 months. The dealer apologized and said they can refund my deposit. Gah!

Wow, that’s really tough .

Right? The timing couldn’t have been worse.

Such a bummer! I couldn’t even get a PHEV at my local dealer. The closest one is 100 miles away.

I’d definitely consider traveling that far if the price was right.

@Sadie
The issue is, you don’t know if the price is right until you’re there. Plus, if my regular dealer doesn’t sell PHEVs, I’m not sure how much they can help with any maintenance issues.

Fair point. I usually go to a local mechanic instead of the dealer, so that wouldn’t be a problem for me, but I get what you mean.

@Sadie
Sounds like you’re a bit younger than me. I’ve been done with car maintenance for a while now.

No, I just prefer the local mechanic over the dealer.

Ah, I get it. I’ve found it easier to let my local dealer handle the service. They keep all the records, and it’s handy for any warranty issues.

@danielsteeler
That makes sense. I’ve always thought the dealership would charge more, so I avoid them.

They probably do charge more, but having them keep all your service records is worth it.

@danielsteeler
That’s true.

Mine was supposed to arrive at the end of the week. Got the same call. The sales guy said Hyundai Canada is looking into it. Really disappointing .

That’s what I was told too. Do you think they might find a way to help us out? Did your car go up $5k as well?

@Sadie
Yep. But I’m probably not going to go through with the deal if the price stays that way.

Such bad timing. It’s probably even worse for you since your car has actually arrived. For me, I just installed a new level 2 charger, so I’m stuck a bit too.

A hybrid is a good option if you can find one.

Yeah, I’m thinking of going for the hybrid. I already bought winter wheels and floor liners, so I need a car to fit them.

@Sadie
We have a hybrid, and it’s amazing for fuel economy in the summer. But be ready for it to need the engine running more in winter for heat. We love it overall, though, and if we could, we’d probably go for the PHEV (which had a 1-2 year wait when we got ours in 2022).
