I just got my Kona on September 12th, and while I love my car, I absolutely hate the weekly trips to the gas station. My Elantra N Line had better gas mileage. I’m retired, so I don’t drive much. Even with my 2020 Tucson, driving an hour away, the gas mileage was better than this thing. It’s starting to make the car less enjoyable. I’ve heard there’s a break-in period of about 4,000 miles, but then again, I’ve heard there’s no such thing. Big sigh.
Two things. The Kona’s tank is smaller than the Elantra’s, and the gas mileage is mediocre for a small SUV.
I fill up 3 times a week myself, but I’m averaging almost 31 mpg.

Wow! That would drive me insane, lol.
@Amelia
My F-150 needed a fill-up daily. So this is an improvement for me. I don’t mind getting gas, though; I usually grab something inside when I pay since I never pay at the pump. Sometimes, if it’s not busy, I chat with the staff because I’m a regular, haha.
@willwinfrey
My dad’s Sierra gets pretty good mileage. I was impressed.

Mine was a 2001, so it averaged around 11 mpg.
Maybe consider the Kona EV. They had some good deals on it, but I think it’s not AWD.

AWD vs FWD?
AWD.
My 2020 Elantra needed filling up once a week, and the Tucson did too.

Wow. I could drive my Elantra for 2 weeks without filling up.
I’m not sure why this is happening for you. I had a 2019 Elantra Sport, then a 2022 Elantra N (God, I miss that car; it was the most fun I’ve had driving), and now I have the 2024 Kona N Line, and my frequency of filling up has not changed.
@Mickey
Me either, but mine has definitely changed. I was driving 15-20 minutes to and from work when I had the Elantra. Now that I’m retired, I mostly drive to the store or run errands around town.

If you’re driving less and just running errands locally, that suggests more urban traffic, which would decrease fuel efficiency. I’m not sure what else it could be.
The gas mileage is decent overall, but the tank is tiny. I work a hybrid job and fill up every 10-12 days. My previous car needed filling up every 3 weeks. But I’m spending less since I average around 33 mpg.
@Taylor
TINY! I haven’t had it a month, and I’ve already been to the pump 4 times.

The last time I had a gas tank this small was in my 2005 Dodge Neon, lol.

This is why I don’t trust that ‘break-in’ period. Is it going to magically grow a bigger tank?!! lol.
It has more range than my Prius. (FWD, average ~28 mpg.)

Not sure I get that, lol, and I don’t drive far.
I agree. I have a 2024 Kona. I came from a 2022 Elantra, and my Elantra was great on gas. The Kona feels like a gas guzzler. I can’t wait for my lease to be over.
